    Tranched Financing

Financing committed in stages tied to predefined milestones.

Reviewed by Christian Espinosa, Founder, Blue Goat CyberLast reviewed May 5, 2026

    Definition

In a tranched round, investors commit total capital but release it in tranches conditional on hitting development, regulatory, or commercial milestones - sharing risk with the company.

    What this means in practice

Common in MedTech for de-risking around 510(k) clearance, CE mark, first-in-human, or initial revenue. Missed milestones can trigger renegotiation or step-down terms.
