Definition
CLIA establishes quality standards for all U.S. laboratory testing performed on humans. Labs are certified by complexity (waived, moderate, high) and inspected by CMS or accreditation organizations (CAP, COLA, Joint Commission). What this means in practice
Moderate/high-complexity certification is required for most molecular and oncology testing. CLIA waiver is the gold standard for point-of-care market expansion.Cross-references
