    ICS Medical Advisory(ICSMA)

    In one line
CISA's official vulnerability advisories for medical devices, the public record of disclosed device cybersecurity issues, indexed as ICSMA-YY-DDD-NN.
    Definition
ICS Medical Advisories are CISA public vulnerability advisories for healthcare products. They commonly identify affected versions, vulnerabilities, CVEs, severity information, mitigations and reporting acknowledgments. FDA or Health-ISAC involvement and a manufacturer disclosure timeline are not guaranteed elements of every advisory.
    Why it matters
Use ICSMAs as inputs to vulnerability assessment, remediation and communication. Separately assess applicable medical device reporting, corrections/removals and customer-notification obligations. An ICSMA alone does not mandate board reporting or Form FDA 3500A submission.
    Common pitfalls
    • •Discovering ICSMA process for the first time during an incident, pre-establish CISA and FDA contacts and run a tabletop.
    • •Treating ICSMAs as marketing damage to be minimized, incomplete or evasive advisories destroy trust with hospital customers far more than the underlying vulnerability.
    • •Ignoring competitor ICSMAs, they are the best public signal of what credible attacks against your product class look like.

Why compare MedTech terms side by side?

MedTech terminology is full of pairs that look interchangeable but carry very different regulatory, clinical, and commercial consequences. Picking the wrong framework, pathway, or standard early in a project can add months to a submission, invalidate clinical evidence, or trigger an audit finding. Side-by-side comparison is the fastest way to surface those differences before they become costly mistakes.

Each comparison on this page pulls from the same vendor-neutral, sourced definitions used throughout the MedTech Terms glossary. You see the one-line summary, the formal definition, why it matters in practice, common pitfalls, and the primary sources (FDA guidance, EU MDR/IVDR articles, ISO/IEC standards, MDCG documents, IMDRF principles) that back each entry. That makes the comparison defensible in regulatory strategy memos, design reviews, and submission narratives.
