## Definition

The FDA outlines requirements for combination products in 21 CFR Part 3, and often involves a lead center, such as the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) with consultation from the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), to ensure both the drug and device aspects meet applicable regulations. The EU  [MDR](/terms/mdr-reporting) (Regulation (EU) 2017/745) also addresses devices incorporating a medicinal substance, requiring consultation with a medicines authority on the safety, quality, and usefulness of the substance.
